Fortuny by Anne-Marie Deschodt and Doretta Davanzo Poli describes this pattern on page 147 as Renaissance flowering thistle pattern called a griccia.

Fortuny Silk Velvet Pillow Cover

Coral or Salmon colored velvet with silver metallic gauffered* overlay. 15th century Pomegranate design.

* Fortuny used two methods for stenciling gilt metallic finishs to velvet. Gauffered which has a raised or relief effect and flattened finish which leaves the velvet pile flattened where stenciled.

Interesting 1989 version of Fortuny Velvet. The good people at Fortuny Inc. briefly reproduced silk velvet with this stenciled metallic pattern. Signed and date 1989. Sample provided for photographing by a friend at the Seattle Fortuny Showroom.
